Create Your Own Adventure Film Fest

Here is a list of some free-to-stream outdoor adventure films to pique your interest. Make some popcorn, kick back and enjoy, then start planning your own family micro-adventure. The High Route

I’m starting the list with the newly released High Route. This film takes place close to home just south of us in Washington State where adventurers Kaytlyn Gerbin and Jenny Abegg set out to complete the rugged North Cascades High Traverse in six days. The previous attempt took 28 days. Since I love adventures close to home and moving fast in the mountains I couldn’t not include this film in the list.  Ice & Palms

Ever since I rode my bicycle (with surfboards in tow) from Victoria to Tijuana anything that combines bicycles with other adventures has been an easy sell for me. So since I first saw the film on Jochen Mesle and Max Kroneck’s 1800km bike/ski adventure across the alps at the Banff Mountain Film Festival it was an immediate favourite of mine.  Happy Recluse Surfing on Vancouver Island has a unique culture of its own. Outside of the well-known beaches of Tofino lies a world of uncrowded waves if you aren’t afraid of a little hiking or a boat ride. In this film, Pete Devries visits a secret spot, which coincidentally happens to be one of my favourite lesser-known beaches on the Island. But don’t worry—the secret remains safe with me. Mind Over Mountain

Another mountain adventure set close to home, this time in BC. This film follows three Canadians: Leah Evans, Marie-France Roy, and Madeleine Martin-Preney as they take on the iconic 136km ski traverse from the Bugaboo’s to Rogers Pass. On The Verge

On BC’s Sunshine Coast lies the Eldred Valley. Although relatively unknown, the granite rock faces in the Eldred rival those of the world-famous Yosemite Valley. This film explores local climbing and its sometimes tenuous relationship with the forestry industry. I have been fortunate enough to join Christie Dionne who is featured in this film on a climbing/mountaineering trip in the Powell River area, where I got to experience the wilderness and beauty of this zone on a long and challenging bushwhack up one of the remote valleys.
