Grade 4 student Liam Pope-Lau had a fantastic time at the Greater Performing Arts Festival, where he performed a monologue from Henry V. Liam started Speech Arts last year at the beginning of Grade 3. His mother Naomi says that he was drawn to the program by his interest in Shakespeare and a passion for public speaking. Every year, GNS partners with Speech Arts Victoria to offer Speech Arts as an co-curricular at the Junior School. Starting early is great for building skills and preparing students like Liam for the many public speaking opportunities GNS offers later on, such as Debate, Model UN and theatre. Liam’s Speech Arts Instructor was Ms. Christy Lienert-Tikal. At the Greater Performing Arts Festival, he was the youngest in his category, and was awarded one of the top Speech Arts Trophies for Passion for Performing in honour of Susan McKay. He is the youngest student to ever receive the award, as it is typically awarded to senior students. A huge congratulations to Liam for phenomenal dedication and risk-taking!
