Following on from the recent article: From Student to Mentor: Steve King’s Enduring Bond with GNS (Vol.8 Issue 2, Sept 13 2024), it is important to mention that also – as if he hasn’t already given more than enough to GNS as Senior Boys Basketball coach, Senior Golf coach, and enthusiastic and supportive parent to a GNS student – Steve has most recently offered his help on a part-time basis in the School’s Archives.

His infectious enthusiasm while involved in GNS life will bring a ‘breath of fresh air’ into the basement of the Henderson Building’s “Archive Alley”. In only a few visits to the Archives, he recognises not only the value of maintaining the records of the past, but also the need to ensure the collections remain current and reflect our history into the future. To this end, while the School provides a multitude of co-curricular activities that particularly offer competition and performance at Junior, Middle and Senior levels, comprehensive information about these, in terms of participants and achievements, has been increasingly difficult to keep track of. This is true especially as much of the information record contained in Yearbooks previously and often relied on, has been replaced by an increasing number of wonderful, memory-providing photographs.

Steve is assisting to help correct this and initially he will connect with many staff to establish lines of communication that aim to provide up-to-date information for archival records on student and group involvement, which is vital to  help maintain an accessible data record of their part in the School’s history. He will undoubtedly inject his brand of passion and commitment into the School’s archival collections as he pursues this important challenge and continues to ‘beat the drum’ for GNS’. Thank you Steve!
